I’m currently laying on my left side, super hydrated, and counting contractions. It appears yesterday’s episode was, in fact, not a one time deal…. After drinking an insane amount of water and then laying on my left side, as directed, I counted six contractions and then proceeded to take the PRN med I was sent home with- Procardia. So far, they’re still happening, and I really don’t want to have to go back to L&D today, or any day before the end of August. Hopefully this med kicks in….
BTW, for those who are curious, apparently very little research has been done on this “Irritable Uterus” situation, so most of the info you can find is purely anecdotal. There is no known cause, yet there do seem to be things that trigger the contractions, such as being dehydrated or having a full bladder- a total oxymoron. And the contractions can be different for different people. For me, they’ve been very mild and brief (less than 30 seconds), and have been isolated the mostly the lower part of my uterus. Typically, actual labor contractions involve the whole uterus, so at least I’ve got that going for me. The other issue I have is that because they’re so mild and in my lower abdomen, sometimes I can’t tell if I’m having a contraction or if the baby is flipping around, which makes this whole counting thing rather difficult.
Things seem to be quieting down again down there…I have a feeling this could be a long, long weekend.
Moral of the story: be kind to your uterus because apparently, they can be easily irritated.
